Update on PS5 Compatibility Options

As we approach the release of more next gen fighting games, we want to provide an update to our customers and community.

Currently, we are still working diligently to provide full PS5 compatibility.

At this time, we want to share a few options for current customers to help with limited compatibility on the PS5*:

Breakout Adapter Kit

The Breakout Adapter Kit is a swap-in mod that allows you to use third-party boards in order to have additional compatibility, including for PS5 games.*

We had a limited test release of this board last year that went really well with customers. This is a great option for people with little modding experience or for those that want compatibility with PS5, XBX, and other gaming platforms.

Orders for the Breakout Adapter Kit are starting right now! Shipping will start Monday and continue throughout next week. Link to the product page below.

  • Hit Box only**
    • Only certain versions of the Hit Box are compatible with this mod. Please refer to the disclaimer section at the bottom of this post for more info on Hit Box compatibility.
    • Cross|Up users will need to use the Direct UP5 mod or Brook Wingman FGC options.
  • Connects to third-party boards for additional compatibility
    • A third-party board will be required to connect to the Breakout Adapter Kit to allow for additional compatibility. A list of compatible boards are included in the instructions on the Breakout Adapter Kit's product page.
    • Connect a UP5 to a compatible Brook board for PS5 compatibility. Please refer to the disclaimer section at the bottom of this post for more info on specific compatibility.
  • Cost: $24.99 USD
    • Third-party boards (Brook UFB, Brook PS3/PS4 Fighting Board Plus, etc.) are not included with the Breakout Adapter Kit.
  • Installation level: Medium.

Wingman FGC

Brook is expected to release an adapter for arcade controllers that will allow compatibility with PS5 games* in the near future.

This will be a great solution for events as well as customers who do not want to mod their controllers.

  • Hit Box and Cross|Up
    • All Hit Box and Cross|Up versions are compatible with this adapter.
  • Plug into the Wingman adapter and play!
    • Provides PS5 compatibility for fighting games. Please refer to the disclaimer section at the bottom of this post for more info on specific compatibility.
  • Expected release: End of May 2023 - out now!
  • Cost: around $50 USD
  • Installation level: Very, very easy.

Direct UP5 mod

Hit Box will be working with a well-known organization within the FGC to provide the modding service for this particular method. More information will be provided at a later date.

  • Hit Box and Cross|Up
    • Only certain Hit Box models will be compatible with this method.
    • All Cross|Up models will be compatible with this method.
    • We will have more information on this option at a later date.
  • Direct solder of UP5 to Hit Box and Cross|Up boards
    • Provides PS5 compatibility for fighting games. Please refer to the disclaimer section at the bottom of this post for more info on specific compatibility.
  • Cost: Price of UP5 and the modding service (TBA).

 Disclaimers

*  Limited Compatibility with PS5:

Brook's UP5 and Wingman FGC offer compatibility for a limited set of PS5 games.
Titles include: Guilty Gear -STRIVE-, The King of Fighters XV, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, DNF Duel, Street Fighter 6***, and Tekken 8***.
Please note that this compatibility is offered by Brook's UP5 and Wingman FGC products. Hit Box has no control over changes in the compatibility of these products.
***Compatibility for Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 have been tested on alpha, beta, and demo builds of these games and do not guarantee compatibility for the final launch versions.

 

** Breakout Adapter Kit compatibility with Hit Box:

The Breakout Adapter Kit is designed for the Gen 3 PS4/PC Hit Boxes.
If you ordered your Hit Box before April 2020, your Hit Box is not compatible.
Compatible Hit Boxes will have 4 top row buttons and a foam padding attached to the bottom panel. If your controller has 3 top row buttons or does not have foam padding, it is NOT compatible with the Breakout Adapter Kit.

Warranty Info

All Hit Box, Smash Box, and Cross|Up controllers are covered under a 6 month warranty that covers normal use defects. The warranty does not cover cosmetic damages or damage caused through modifications to the controller.
