Rivals of Aether for Steam on Smash Box

With its growing popularity, more players are starting to get into Rivals of Aether, including many Smash Box players. Here's a guide to setting up your controller for the game on Steam.

Overview

GameCube to PC Adapters: Hit Box GCA or Mayflash, switch on the back of the adapter set to "PC." [HIGHLY RECOMMENDED]

USB to PC: Smash Box set to PC Mode, will need X360CE for better setup.

Adapters

If you plan on playing through an adapter, use the "Default - RoA (Adapter)" profile in the Smash Box designer.

Hit Box GCA

Our adapter should work seamlessly, as we gave the Rivals of Aether team the adapter to test out to ensure it worked properly with the game. Hit Box GCA product page.

You'll only need to plug in the black USB of the adapter, set the switch on the back of the adapter to "PC," then plug in your Smash Box - you should be good to go.

If you're having issues, check your controller settings in Steam. To be safe, turn off all controller support for the various controllers. You should have a settings menu that looks like this when the adapter is plugged in, and it saying "GameCube Controller Adapter."

Mayflash

The 4-port version of the Mayflash adapter should work as well.

Plug in both USBs of the adapter into the PC, set the switch on the back of the adapter to "PC," and then plug in your Smash Box. You should be all good to go.

As before, if you're having issues, check your controller settings in Steam. To be safe, turn off all controller support for the various controllers. You should have a settings menu that looks like this when the adapter is plugged in, and it saying "Generic Gamepad."

USB to PC

To start off, we don't recommend using this method as it takes much longer to set up, and can mess with analog values and button schemes. But if you don't have any other option, use this guide to get X360CE set up for Rivals of Aether: https://gamerinfo.net/game/rivals-of-aether/x360ce/

Set up your buttons in X360CE to match the controller.

Use the "Default - RoA (USB PCmode)" profile in the Smash Box designer.

And keep in mind that these are the default Xbox Controller buttons for Rivals when setting up your layout.
