C.O.M.B.O. Customization & Art Installation

All of the parts of a C.O.M.B.O. are modular. This allows you to change the Speed and Full Press distance of your button, as well as do any color, art, and part swap that you want.

In this blog we will provide you the full list of parts that come with a C.O.M.B.O., a step-by-step guide of parts swapping, how to get art into your C.O.M.B.O., and a clip from C.O.M.B.O. guide that goes over the general customization process.

Parts & Modularity

C.O.M.B.O.s are composed of four main parts: the Ring, the Plunger, the Optimizer, and the Well.

Each part of the C.O.M.B.O. is modular with other CBs and C.O.M.B.O. Extensions.

  • Ring
    • This locks onto the top of the C.O.M.B.O. and keeps all of the parts together.
  • Plunger
    • Composed of two parts: the Plunger and the Cap.
    • The Plunger allows for different actuation points, which we call Speeds: Classic (1.0mm), Super (0.5mm), and Ultra (0.3mm).
    • The Cap can disconnect from the Plunger. This allows any C.O.M.B.O. to install a clear Cap to showcase a palette swap or custom art. Similarly, swapping the default Cap with Caps of other colors will completely change the button's look too!
  • Optimizer
    • The Optimizer (OP) silences and shortens the total travel distance of your buttons press.
    • The are three OP options: Classic (1.5mm), Super (1.0mm), and Ultra (0.65mm).
  • Well
    • The Well holds the other parts within it.
    • The Cherry MX Low Profile Speed Silver switch is installed onto the bottom of the Well.

Customization

The following is the instructions for removing each part of the C.O.M.B.O. and reinstalling them. If at any point you are having issues please post in our Discord or reach out to support@hitboxarcade.com.

Open the C.O.M.B.O.

Grip the Ring of the C.O.M.B.O. by one of the notches and then rotate it counter-clockwise to unlock it from the Well. You can do this while your C.O.M.B.O. is still installed in your controller!

If you push down on the Plunger it will help stabilize the Well and prevent the whole button from rotating.

Remove the Rim from the Well, then remove the Plunger from the Well.

Remove the Cap

Find the gap in the Cap to use as leverage to remove the Cap from the Plunger.

Swapping Parts

Once you reach this point in the customization process, you swap part among other C.O.M.B.O.s that you have to fit your style.

All parts are swappable between the C.O.M.B.O. Button and the C.O.M.B.O. Extension if they are the same size button - if you have parts from a 24mm, you can only use them for a 24mm C.O.M.B.O.

However, Optimizers are compatible between both 24mm and 30mm C.O.M.B.O. sizes.

Remove or Swap the Optimizer

Palette Swap or Art Insert

Exchange different colors from your palette swap or install art (information below).

Reattach the Cap

Simply press the Cap on top of the Plunger until you hear a 'click' sound.

Place the Plunger into the Well

Make sure the bottom of the Plunger fits into the cross-shaped section of the Switch inside the Well.

Lock the C.O.M.B.O.

Insert the Ring back into the Well. Make sure to that the pegs on the underside of the Ring match with the insert notches in the Well.
Once inserted, rotate the Ring clockwise to lock the C.O.M.B.O. together.
Remember, if you push down on the Plunger it will help stabilize the Well and prevent the whole button from rotating.

Getting the Art

When you have decided which art you want to put into your C.O.M.B.O.s, you will have to print the art onto paper or thin card-stock.

  • Use an official Art Template:
    • Official Art Templates: Custom Art Template Downloads
      • If you just want art for your C.O.M.B.O.s, then use the C.O.M.B.O. Art Template.
      • If you want to get art for your C.O.M.B.O.s and your Hit Box Arcade controller, use the Controller Art Template of your choice.
    • Further printing and cutting instructions are included with the templates.
  • Use a third-party service:
    • Focus Attack offers custom print and cut service for each Hit Box Arcade controller. Use the button cut-outs for the C.O.M.B.O.s.
    • Ask in r/fightsticks for other print and cut services:
