Here is the process of installing the Cross|Up Designer onto your Windows PC.
- Migrate Profiles
- Uninstall Previous Version
- Download Latest Version
- Installation
- Communication Drivers
- Updating Firmware
- Using the Designer
Migrating Your Custom-Made Profiles
Before you start the process of installing the newest Designer, it is wise to move any profiles (or layouts) you have created to another folder on your PC.
In Designer versions 1.08 and earlier, your custom made profiles should be in a folder called "layouts."
In beta or Community Preview Designer versions 1.09 and 2.0, the folder may be called "layouts" or "profiles."
Move any profiles you wish to keep to a folder that is completely separate from the Cross|Up folder on your PC. Doing so will ensure you can keep them for the latest Designer.
Uninstall Previous Version
Do you need this step?
- If you have Designer version 1.08, 1.07. 1.06, or earlier, you do not need this step. Please move onto the next step.
- If you have beta or Community Preview Designer versions 1.09 or 2.0, you will need to follow this step.
Go into the folder for the Cross|Up Designer. It defaults to the Windows Desktop if you cannot find it, or in your Program Files folder.
Select "unis000.exe" to uninstall.
This step is important to ensure that the latest Designer is not trying to reference older files.
Download the Latest Version of the Designer
You can download the latest version of the Designer here: Cross|Up Downloads.
Once downloaded, you can move on to the installation process.
Installing the Designer
Find the latest Designer in your Downloads folder and open it.
Your PC may prevent the file from opening due to default protections.
Select "More Info", then "Run Anyway."
Next, determine if you want to put the Cross|Up Designer folder in the default location or not, then select "Next."
Then, determine where the shortcut for the Designer will be located on your PC. When ready, select "Next."
Finally, determine if you want a desktop shortcut for the Designer. Then click "Next."
The last part of the installation is simply confirming the selections you made up to this point.
If this looks good to you, then select "Install."
When installing, you will see a window similar to this:
Once it finishes installing, it will provide some options for finalizing the setup.
To best ensure a smooth process, only select one of the following.
- Install Cross|Up Communication Drivers
- Select this if this is the first time you are ever using the Designer on that PC.
- Run Cross|Up PS4 Board Updater
- This is rarely needed, and usually only for technical support.
- For more information and a direct download of the latest version of this firmware, go to the "Cross|Up PS4 Firmware" section of the downloads page: Cross|Up Downloads.
- Start Cross|Up Designer
- If you want to get straight into customizing your profiles, then select this.

Updating the Firmware
When you first open the Cross|Up Designer, a window will pop up asking if you want to update your firmware.
Select "Yes."
This window will pop up. This is the firmware update window.
Next, plug in your Cross|Up into your PC.
- Use the USB-B cable that comes with your Cross|Up, plug it into the side of the Cross|Up.
- If you do not have a USB-B cable, they are easy to find online.
- DO NOT use the gaming cable that plugs onto the top of the Cross|Up.
- Plug the cable into you PC.
- DO NOT plug it into a USB hub.
- If you have a desktop PC, to ensure best communication, plug the USB into the back of your tower.
Once the Cross|Up is plugged in following the instructions above, select the check box next to "Use A Specific COM port". Then in the drop-down menu below select the COM port of the Cross|Up.
If you see multiple COM ports, either 1) disconnect any other peripherals you have connected to your PC until you see only one COM port, or 2) follow the link to the detailed instructions at the bottom of this step.
Once you have the COM port selected, then choose "Initialize All Defaults."
A window may pop up warning you that the Cross|Up will be set to the default profiles and settings for the Designer you are using. This is to ensure that you do not lose any of your profiles from before. If you skipped the first step of this blog, please go back to the top now to ensure you do not lose your profiles on your Cross|Up.
Select "OK" to continue.
Next you should see a window pop up showing the progress of the update. This will take a few moments.
Once that process finished, then the firmware updater window will show "Successfully initialized."
After this, select the "X" at the top right of the window. Once you do, a new window will pop up.
It is instructing you to unplug your Cross|Up from your PC, for about 3 seconds, before continuing. Once you plug it back in, select "OK."
Next, a prompt will come up asking if you wish to see the initial "do you want to update your firmware?" window the next time you open the Designer.
If you were successful at updating the firmware, select "No."
